Jaw Aesthetics Operations

There are many operations that can be performed on lower and upper jaw areas. These operations include lengthening operations for short jaws, and shortening operations for long jaws, jaw alignment corrections, beautifying the chin, trimming chin and jaws, cyst and tumor removals, implant or prosthesis operations and other surgical operations which may improve the aesthetics of the jaw area.

Jaw aesthetics operations may result with significant aesthetics changes on the face, since lower and upper jaw areas make up around two-thirds of the face area.

A number of surgical aesthetic operations can be performed on upper jaw, lower jaw and on face tissues to detect deviations and to correct asymmetries. These operations require a Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon experienced and trained in jaw prosthetics and various aesthetic surgical techniques. Since jaw operations directly affect dental health, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons with dentistry training can successfully monitor alterations and changes on jaw and teeth in parallel, which increases the chances of a successful operation. Operations performed on jaw area are mostly aimed at improving the aesthetics or to improve chewing efficiency. There may also be certain necessary procedures that should be performed by dentists, which may necessitate that maxillofacial surgery operations must be performed in tandem with dentists or other dental specialists. Before any procedures, it is crucially important that the patient’s face must first be examined by a Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon expert in aesthetics, in order to measure face lines and plan the operation.
